Apple Intelligence for business: what it is, how it works and how to leverage it

How Apple’s AI can transform your business operations

Apple Intelligence for business

What is Apple Intelligence and why does it matter for your business

Apple Intelligence is the personal intelligence system that places powerful generative models at the very centre of your iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is deeply integrated into system experiences and all the apps you use daily in iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS 26 Tahoe, delivered as a free software update.

Unlike many cloud AI platforms, Apple Intelligence runs primarily on the device, relying on Apple Silicon chips and their Neural Engine to guarantee performance and security without constantly depending on external servers. This is key for businesses handling sensitive information that does not want its data constantly travelling through third-party services. The system is designed to always protect user privacy.

Apple Intelligence is available in beta with support for: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese and Korean.

It is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and later, iPad with A17 Pro or M1 chip and later, and Mac with M1 chip and later. Some features are not available in all countries or languages.

How it works: on-device and in the private cloud

Apple Intelligence first processes requests directly on the user’s iPhone, iPad or Mac, leveraging the dedicated hardware of M-series and latest A-series chips. This allows many writing, classification or summarisation features to run locally, keeping data on the device and reducing latency.

When a request requires larger models, Private Cloud Compute comes into play — servers with Apple chips designed to extend the device’s privacy guarantees to the cloud. Apple states that data sent to this infrastructure is not stored, only used to process the request and then deleted, with code auditable by independent researchers.

Key features for enterprise productivity

For a work environment, the integrated writing tools allow rewriting, reviewing and summarising text almost anywhere in the system: emails in Mail, documents in Pages, internal notes and third-party apps. This helps commercial, marketing and management teams save time on drafting proposals, complex emails and internal documentation.

Apple Intelligence also improves visual intelligence, identifying relevant on-screen content and suggesting actions such as extracting information from emails, web pages or documents and categorising it to facilitate decision-making. It also incorporates real-time translation and new creative options for generating images or avatars.

Privacy and compliance: a strong point against other AI

Apple’s official Apple Intelligence page insists the system “knows your personal information, but never collects it”, relying on processes running within the device. This notably reduces the risk of corporate data ending up training third-party models or stored in uncontrolled external services.

For many companies concerned with data protection and sovereignty, this approach represents a competitive advantage over other AI providers.

Concrete use cases

  • Email drafting and replies: tone review, message simplification and automatic summaries of long threads in Mail — ideal for commercial and support teams.
  • Documentation and reporting: summaries of extensive reports, rewriting technical text into plain language, and generating drafts in Pages, Notes and third-party apps.
  • Personal and team organisation: prioritisation of important notifications and messages to help managers focus on what’s critical.
  • Training and internal support: real-time translation and visual content generation for training materials, manuals and quick guides.

Requirements, compatibility and getting started

Apple Intelligence integrates into iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, available on a selection of devices with recent chips including Mac with Apple Silicon. Apple has announced progressive rollouts by country with support for more languages and devices.
